Meet Our Experts - Trevor White

Trevor White is a Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Advisor at USAID/OFDA. As part of the USAID/OFDA WASH team, Trevor provides support at the country level during natural disasters and conflicts, but also at a global level to support efforts to improve the quality of future WASH responses. Most recently, Trevor deployed to the Caribbean islands of St. Martin and Dominica after water and power utilities were severely damaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria, respectively. There he helped provide safe water for drinking, cooking, and personal hygiene to communities in need. Trevor is a registered professional civil engineer, licensed in the state of Alaska, where he worked for many years to support Native Alaskan tribal governments to operate and maintain water and sewer infrastructure and to build or improve community infrastructure. Trevor joined USAID/OFDA in 2009 and finds the work incredibly rewarding and meaningful. No two disasters are exactly the same, and each has their own challenges and rewards, but he always considers himself very lucky to have the opportunity to help people all over the world.

In addition, USAID/OFDA works to improve safety and security within the humanitarian community, especially since our disaster experts and partners frequently operate in some of the most insecure countries around the world. The Safety and Security Update has more about how USAID/OFDA enables disaster response while minimizing the risk to humanitarians.
