Speeches Shim
Emile Manigat, USAID
Our assistance can mean the difference between life and death for millions of people every year.
Countries
We work around the world to help those in need after crises strike. Last fiscal year alone, USAID responded to 53 disasters in 51 countries:
- When the ongoing humanitarian-assistance in Syria caused millions of people to flee the violence, USAID provided food, emergency medical care, and relief supplies to those forced to leave their homes behind.
- When violence uprooted communities in Yemen, South Sudan, Lake Chad Basin, and Iraq, USAID helped millions of people get access to safe drinking water, built sanitation facilities to reduce the threat of disease, and helped transport critical emergency supplies to those in need.
- When the strongest Atlantic hurricane on record headed towards the Caribbean, USAID pre-positioned staff and emergency supplies. Once the storm made landfall, USAID deployed a team of disaster experts to respond to immediate humanitarian needs stemming from Hurricane Irma, and later, Hurricane Maria.
- When a magnitude 7.1 earthquake hit Mexico, USAID deployed a team of disaster experts, including an urban search and rescue team, to help the Government of Mexico find survivors.
