USAID-supported FUV’s Undergraduate Program in Liberal Arts, Sciences, and Engineering has kicked off student admissions and outreach for its first year, which commences in autumn 2018. FUV is Vietnam’s first fully independent non-profit university, and one key task ahead of it is to design its entire undergraduate experience.
In Vietnam, stigma and discrimination remains a major barrier to HIV testing and treatment, particularly in mountainous and rural areas. On December 20-21, USAID’s Sustainable HIV Response from Technical Assistance activity and the Dien Bien Provincial AIDS Center led two trainings for local government health workers and community-based supporters.
As Vietnam integrates further into the global economy, there is a strong need for greater capacity in public policy, leadership and governance, starting with local provinces. From December 18-22, USAID’s Governance for Inclusive Growth activity and the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s Academy for Policy Development ― the leading policy research and analysis training institution in Vietnam ― held an in-depth training program.
The U.S. and Vietnam have a well established and successful history of cooperating to assist persons with disabilities. Over the last two years, USAID’s Disability Rights Enforcement, Coordination and Therapies activity helped establish 17 new rehabilitation units in district and provincial hospitals in Tay Ninh and Binh Phuoc provinces.
Managing HIV cases nationwide is complex and until now, HIV INFO - the software created to efficiently manage HIV cases nationally - was outdated. In response, USAID’s Local Strategic Information activity provided technical and financial assistance to upgrade the software.
