Hanoi, December 15, 2020 – Today, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Vietnam National TB Program (NTP) expanded the Ministry of Health/NTP’s “Double X” Strategy for TB case identification, with the goal of ending TB in Vietnam by 2030. Double X is a new strategy to diagnose TB using chest X-rays and GeneXpert, a diagnostic method that detects TB bacteria.
HANOI, December 14, 2020 – Today, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Vietnam Urban Energy Security project and Vietnam Electricity (EVN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formalize a partnership that will support EVN’s efforts to expand Rooftop Solar (RTS) energy generation in Vietnam.
Today, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Quang Nam Provincial People’s Committee (PPC), and the Thua Thien Hue PPC hosted an event in Danang to mark the completion of the USAID Green Annamites project. USAID/Vietnam Mission Director Ann Marie Yastishock, Quang Nam PPC Chairman Lê Trí Thanh, Thua Thien-Hue PPC Vice Chairman Nguyễn Văn Phương, Ministry representatives, provincial leaders, District Peoples’ Committees, private sector partners, local organizations, and community members attended the event.
Today, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Vietnam Mission Director Ann Marie Yastishock and Vietnam Social Security (VSS) Deputy General Director Dr. Phạm Lương Sơn signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), formalizing that the USAID Local Health System Sustainability project will provide technical assistance to VSS to improve its Social Health Insurance (SHI) implementation for the next four years. The project will also support Vietnam’s transition to full financial ownership of its HIV and tuberculosis responses. During the signing ceremony Mission Director Yastishock said, “We value our close partnership with VSS and will continue our work together to strengthen the governance and financial management capacity of VSS to manage SHI funds effectively, efficiently, equitably, and with accountability. The MOU signing reinforces USAID’s commitment to support Vietnam’s efforts in its journey to self-reliance towards achieving strong, sustainable health systems as a means to support access to universal health coverage.”
WASHINGTON D.C., October 30, 2020 - Today, while in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo announced the United States is providing an additional $2 million in humanitarian assistance to respond to Typhoon Molave and the ongoing severe flooding that has affected Central Vietnam since early October. This amount brings the total humanitarian assistance from the U.S. Government for people touched by the floods to $2.1 million.
HANOI, Vietnam, October 28, 2020 -- Today, during the Indo-Pacific Business Forum being held in Hanoi, Vietnam, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Vietnam Mission Director Ann Marie Yastishock announced the launch of the Vietnam Low Emission Energy Program II (V-LEEP II). This five-year, $36 million program will accelerate Vietnam’s transition to a clean, secure, and market-driven energy system.
HANOI, October 17, 2020 -- Today, U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink announced an initial $100,000 in disaster relief funds. These funds will be provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VNRC) to address the immediate humanitarian needs of vulnerable communities in areas most affected by Tropical Storm Linfa.
HANOI, October 13, 2020 -- Today, U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Acting Vietnam Mission Director Bradley Bessire and Vietnam’s Office of the Government (OOG) Chairman Mai Tiến Dũng participated in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony between USAID and OOG. Through this MOU, USAID will help OOG accelerate administrative reforms, enhance national inter-agency coordination and transparency, and further develop its e-government platform - the National Public Service Portal - which will improve access to information, benefitting both citizens and businesses.
Hanoi, September 30, 2020 -- Today, the U.S. Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), donated 100 brand-new ventilators to Vietnam to support its ongoing response to COVID-19. The donation delivers on President Trump’s generous offer of these critically needed supplies, and supports Vietnam’s urgent response to the pandemic. The handover ceremony was attended by U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink, USAID/Vietnam Mission Director Michael Greene, Acting Minister of Health Dr. Nguyễn Thanh Long and National Lung Hospital Director Dr. Nguyễn Viết Nhung.
