HANOI, December 15, 2020 -- Today, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) launched the Local Health System Sustainability (LHSS) project in Vietnam. The project aims to strengthen the Government of Vietnam’s capacity to sustainably manage HIV and tuberculosis (TB) programs towards achieving the country’s commitment to end HIV and TB by 2030. USAID/Vietnam Mission Director Ann Marie Yastishock, Vice Minister of Health Mr. Do Xuan Tuyen, representatives of Ministry of Health agencies, and other leaders from Vietnam Social Security and the Ministry of Finance attended the event.

Through the LHSS Vietnam project, USAID will continue to work with the Government of Vietnam, focusing on four main objectives: (1) Strengthening public financial management systems for the health sector and finding greater efficiencies in social health insurance; (2) Increasing and improving the efficiency of domestic financing of HIV prevention and treatment services; (3) Strengthening the capacity of  Vietnam’s supply chain management system; (4) Integrating TB services into social health insurance.

On November 23-24, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized a workshop in Quy Nhon where business leaders in Central Vietnam pledged to actively combat illegal wildlife consumption, tapping new programs to shed light on wildlife crime and myths about consumption that are driving the trade in and through the country.

Today, U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink and Vietnam Ministry of National Defense (MND) Vice Minister Nguyễn Chí Vịnh witnessed the signing of an agreement to hand over 13.7 hectares of remediated land at the Danang International Airport to the control of the Ministry of Transportation. This is the third and last portion of land to be turned over for expansion of Danang International Airport. The ceremony also marked the completion of the six-year, $110 million Environmental Remediation of Dioxin Contamination at Danang Airport Project, jointly implemented by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and MND.

Today, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Ministry of Justice (MOJ) hosted an event to mark the completion of the USAID Governance For Inclusive Growth (GIG) program.

U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink, USAID/Vietnam Mission Director Michael Greene, and Vice Minister of Justice Nguyen Khanh Ngoc opened the event. It was attended by about 250 representatives from government ministries, business associations, social organizations, international organizations, and news agencies.

HANOI, May 11, 2018 – Today, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) officially launched the USAID Saving Species project. U.S. Ambassador Daniel J. Kritenbrink, Permanent Deputy Minister of MARD Dr. Ha Cong Tuan, representatives of the MARD Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species Management Authority of Vietnam, and other government and NGO stakeholders attended the launch.

Today, U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink joined Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Deputy Minister of National Defense, in witnessing the signing of a Memorandum of Intent between the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Ministry of National Defense Military Science Department to begin the process of dioxin contamination remediation at Bien Hoa Air Base area.

Today, U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink launched Phase II of the Enhanced Capacity of the Vietnam Red Cross (VNRC) project on behalf of the U.S. Government.  With an $800,000 grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development, Phase II of the VNRC project is expected to benefit 13,700 people directly and 30,000 people indirectly in three target provinces of Bac Lieu, Hoa Binh, and Quang Tri.

Today, the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID’s) Improving Access, Curriculum and Teaching in Medical Education and Emerging Diseases (IMPACT-MED) Alliance held the First Annual National Vietnam Medical Education Conference at the Sheraton Saigon Hotel and Towers in Ho Chi Minh City. The conference, lasting two days, is co-organized with the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy and focused on “Preparing the 21st Century Physician.” The U.S. Chargé d'affaires to Vietnam Caryn McClelland opened the conference along with the Vice Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc and the Director of Ho Chi Minh City Health Department Nguyễn Tấn Bỉnh.
