HANOI, November 1, 2019 - Today, at the Vietnam Ministry of National Defense’s Headquarters in Hanoi, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Deputy Administrator Bonnie Glick, U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink, Vice Minister of National Defense Senior Lieutenant General Nguyễn Chí Vịnh, and USAID/Vietnam Mission Director Michael Greene participated in an event to commemorate the handover of 37 hectares of the Airbase by Air Defense-Air Force Command (ADAFC) to USAID, a key initial milestone in the Dioxin Remediation at Bien Hoa Airbase Area Project. USAID and ADAFC’s initial work will remediate dioxin in an area known as “Pacer Ivy” using treatment and isolation methods similar to those successfully used at Danang Airport.

Today, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Office of the Vietnamese Government, and the Ministry of Planning and Investment launched the USAID Linkages for Small and Medium Enterprises (USAID LinkSME) project. The event was attended by U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink, Minister and Chairman of the Government Office Mr. Mai Tien Dung, Minister of Planning and Investment Mr. Nguyen Chi Dung, USAID/Vietnam Mission Director Michael Greene, as well as representatives from ministries, local government agencies, business associations, Vietnamese small and medium enterprises, foreign firms, international organizations, and the media.
HANOI, July 10, 2019 -- Today, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Vietnam’s Ministry of Finance launched the USAID Trade Facilitation Program. It was attended by Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Vương Đình Huệ, U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink, USAID/Vietnam Mission Director Michael Greene, as well as representatives from local government agencies, international organizations, and business associations.
Today, Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) leader and the U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink participated in a public consultation to introduce MOIT’s proposal for Vietnam’s Direct Power Purchase Agreement (DPPA) mechanism. This new policy will allow businesses in Vietnam to procure electricity directly from private firms producing renewable energy and enable them to power their operations with 100 percent renewable energy.
Today, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Vietnam’s Air Defense Airforce Command (ADAFC) launched the dioxin remediation project at Bien Hoa Airbase, the largest remaining hotspot of dioxin contamination in Vietnam. The project will remediate high-risk areas over an estimated ten-year period using treatment and isolation methods similar to those used at Danang Airport.
Today, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Office of the Standing Board for the National Committee on the Settlement of Post-War Unexploded Ordnance and Toxic Chemical Consequences (Office 701), signed a memorandum of intent that will improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities in seven targeted Vietnamese provinces - Quang Tri, Hue, Quang Nam, Binh Dinh, Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc, and Tay Ninh. Over the next five years, USAID and Office 701 will work with the Ministry of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs; the Ministry of Health; local organizations; and the People’s Committees in these provinces to provide direct care, build the capacity of the rehabilitation sector, and develop community level social services.
Today, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Institute for Social Development Studies (ISDS) hosted an event to mark the completion of the USAID Land Access for Women (LAW) project. The International Center for Research on Women and ISDS implemented this project from 2014 to 2018.
