HANOI, December 15, 2020 -- Today, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) launched the Local Health System Sustainability (LHSS) project in Vietnam. The project aims to strengthen the Government of Vietnam’s capacity to sustainably manage HIV and tuberculosis (TB) programs towards achieving the country’s commitment to end HIV and TB by 2030. USAID/Vietnam Mission Director Ann Marie Yastishock, Vice Minister of Health Mr. Do Xuan Tuyen, representatives of Ministry of Health agencies, and other leaders from Vietnam Social Security and the Ministry of Finance attended the event.

Through the LHSS Vietnam project, USAID will continue to work with the Government of Vietnam, focusing on four main objectives: (1) Strengthening public financial management systems for the health sector and finding greater efficiencies in social health insurance; (2) Increasing and improving the efficiency of domestic financing of HIV prevention and treatment services; (3) Strengthening the capacity of  Vietnam’s supply chain management system; (4) Integrating TB services into social health insurance.

Today, U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink announced over $1 million in emergency assistance and longer-term disaster risk reduction support to Vietnam to respond to the impacts of Typhoon Damrey and future disasters on behalf of the U.S. Government.

Today the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) launched Phase II of the Building Resilience to Natural Hazards in Central Vietnam project.   Phase II will be implemented by the American Red Cross with five Consortium members:  Vietnam Red Cross, Plan International, HelpAge International, Catholic Relief Services, and Save the Children.

Today, the U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam - Ted Osius, joined Le Tri Thanh, Vice Chairman of Quang Nam province, along with other stakeholders from the province and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to open a new Elephant Species and Habitat Protected Area in Nong Son District. This protected area will conserve 18,977 hectares of critical habitat for one of the last groups of endangered Asian elephants in Quang Nam.

Today, in collaboration with Fablab Danang, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Arizona State University (ASU) and University of Danang launched a Maker Innovation Space. Located in University of Danang, this fully equipped laboratory space will help students gain skills to launch and test new technologies and innovative solutions to community development challenges.

United States and Vietnam Launch Oral HIV Pre-Exposure Option to Reduce New Infections

HO CHI MINH CITY, June 12, 2017—Today, leaders and senior officials from the Ministry of Health (MOH), the U.S. Embassy, PATH, local authorities, community groups, private-sector companies, and celebrities came together to officially launch pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) services in Vietnam. This encouraging and informative event marked a major step forward for Vietnam in its strategy to reduce new HIV infections.
