In preparation for Vietnam’s first Master’s Degree in SALT, USAID worked with University of Sydney to organize a workshop to develop a SALT curriculum. The workshop took place in Ho Chi Minh City from January 18 - 20 and was led by SALT expert Professor Lindy McAllister, as well as Vietnamese professionals from leading medical universities and hospitals in Vietnam.

This week, TRAFFIC Vietnam - a global wildlife trade monitoring network - released a report titled “Mapping Motivations – Combatting consumption of illegal wildlife in Vietnam.” This report was produced under USAID Saving Species. It defines the motivations behind the illegal consumption of three species in Vietnam - rhinos, elephants, and pangolins - and identifies opportunities to influence consumer groups.

On January 17, USAID’s Sustainable HIV Response from Technical Assistance (SHIFT) activity, the Vietnam Authority for HIV/AIDS Control (VAAC) and UN Women hosted an event in Hanoi to share findings from a joint UN-VAAC gender assessment of Vietnam’s HIV response, and propagate action to address identified gaps.

In 2018, for the first time, VSS will procure HIV drugs that will be covered by the Social Health Insurance Program. Over the last year, USAID’s Global Health Supply Chain Program-Procurement and Supply Management (GHSC-PSM) activity has been training VSS staff on procedures for provincial forecasting and bidding.

January 18, 2018

USAID’s Governance for Inclusive Growth Program’s grant to the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) has supported the development of a digital portal for VCCI to communicate with businesses on labor policies and to gather their feedback on the revision of labor laws.
