As Vietnam integrates further into the global economy, there is a strong need for greater capacity in public policy, leadership and governance, starting with local provinces. From December 18-22, USAID’s Governance for Inclusive Growth activity and the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s Academy for Policy Development ― the leading policy research and analysis training institution in Vietnam ― held an in-depth training program. The training targeted provincial government officials development policy, leadership skills, and human resource development in the public sector. These skills will allow reformers to design key performance indicators for the local government and help them link the objectives of local authorities with job descriptions and planning for training and development programs. USAID/Vietnam Mission Director Mike Greene provided opening remarks. So What? Improving the governance skills of provincial-level government officials is critical to the development of Vietnam’s provinces, which in turn will contribute to better socio-economic development nationwide.
