June 9, 2020, SKOPJE - The United States, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has committed an additional $450,000 to support North Macedonia’s efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing its total contribution to $1.5 million. 

The additional funding will be provided to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to support

  • coordination, planning, monitoring, operations, and logistics;
  • risk communication and community engagement; and
  • case management and infection prevention and control in health facilities.

U.S. Ambassador Kate Byrnes noted “the U.S. government is proud to be a conduit for the generosity of the American people to fight this pandemic together with our allies.  Through our partnership with UNICEF, we are pleased to augment the emergency health, humanitarian, and economic response by the government, private sector, and non-governmental organizations, as well as the international community.”

SKOPJE – The U.S. Government has committed $1.1 million to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak in North Macedonia. Through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the United States is providing these funds to the World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations Children's Fund – UNICEF to implement activities to support the country’s efforts to respond to the COVID-19.

USAID is closely coordinating with the Government of North Macedonia, international humanitarian partners, and other stakeholders to identify priority areas for investment.

USAID’s Business Ecosystem Project and FX3X will collaborate on increasing employment in the VFX and CG animation careers and developing the two trades. Today, June 19, 2019, the National Convention on European Union (NCEU) organized a Plenary Conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the event, USAID and SlovakAid signed a memorandum of understanding with each side committing to an additional approximate $100K to continue the project for two more years.  The MOU demonstrates Slovakia’s forward trajectory along its development journey moving from a recipient of US development assistance to now an equal partner with the U.S. providing their own bilateral assistance to help other nations rise up.
Factoring Conference

Today, May 14, 2019, the USAID Factoring Project, in collaboration with Factor Chain International, the Economic Chamber of Macedonia, and the Macedonian Banking Association, hosted the first regional conference on factoring as an alternative tool for financing micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). The main goals of this regional conference are to increase the understanding and use of factoring among MSMEs, and encourage domestic financial institutions to adopt best practices for trade finance and supply chain factoring.

Gretchen Birkle recognized the importance of developing solutions jointly through public-private dialogue.

The USAID Partnership for Better Business Regulation Project hosted two forums – one in Tetovo and one in Skopje – to discuss the challenges domestic companies face with finding qualified employees in North Macedonia. The forum addressed new measures to increase employment and qualifications of young professionals entering the labor market.
