June 9, 2020, SKOPJE - The United States, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has committed an additional $450,000 to support North Macedonia’s efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing its total contribution to $1.5 million. 

The additional funding will be provided to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to support

  • coordination, planning, monitoring, operations, and logistics;
  • risk communication and community engagement; and
  • case management and infection prevention and control in health facilities.

U.S. Ambassador Kate Byrnes noted “the U.S. government is proud to be a conduit for the generosity of the American people to fight this pandemic together with our allies.  Through our partnership with UNICEF, we are pleased to augment the emergency health, humanitarian, and economic response by the government, private sector, and non-governmental organizations, as well as the international community.”

Quality Standard ISO 9001:2015

On January 26, 2017, six judicial institutions were awarded certificates in the quality standard ISO 9001:2015 under the USAID Organizational Performance Improvement Program. The Judicial Council of the Republic of Macedonia, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Macedonia, and the four appellate courts in Skopje, Stip, Bitola, and Gostivar not only represent the first judicial institutions certified in this quality management standard, but also represent first public institutions in the country that are certified in the latest version of this standard.

Today in Mogila the USAID Small Business Expansion Project, co-financed by the Government of Switzerland, held a closing ceremony for its four-year Grow More Corn initiative during the agricultural fair Traktorijada 2016. This event was organized by the Municipality of Mogila and the Local Action Group PeLAGonija. USAID/Macedonia Mission Director James Stein and the Ambassador of Switzerland to the Republic of Macedonia, Sybille Suter-Tejada gave remarks at the closing ceremony highlighting the achievements of the initiative.

December 14, 2017 - Today at the office of the Ombudsman a Memorandum for Cooperation was signed by the Ombudsman of the Republic of Macedonia and, the USAID LGBTI Inclusion Project implemented by the Helsinki Committee for human rights, to highlight the importance of protection and promotion of the rights of LGBTI people in the Republic of Macedonia. Representatives of LGBTI organizations and human rights activists attended the signing ceremony.
