National High School Essay Contest Winners Announced

We are proud to announce the winners of USAID’s National High School Essay Contest, in which young people were asked to envision a future for Macedonia and articulate how they will contribute to realizing it. The competition was open to high school students from across the country.

In alphabetical order, here are the winners!

Aleksandar Temelkoski

Ana Markoska

Anastasija Lefkoska

Ana Ilieva

Beyza Ismail

Jovica Jankovic

Marija Spasova

Nina Decheva

Patricia Tashkova

Veton Sela

Contestants wrote about a range of ideas conceptualizing the “Macedonian Dream,” a country with a standard of living comparable to the most advanced global economies; a country fully capitalizing on its tourism potential or enjoying a boom in medial advancement; a country that young people no longer feel they need to leave in order to have a better future. Essayists described how they would contribute to that future by being social activists, entrepreneurs, and scientists, and one hoping to shatter the ultimate glass ceiling by becoming the first female President of the Republic of Macedonia.

All winners will be invited to meet U.S. Ambassador to Macedonia Jess L. Baily at his residence in Skopje and receive a certificate of appreciation.

Thank you to all the students who took the time and effort to participate in the contest.  Your essays are an inspiration!
