From November 6-13, 2019, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Mark Green will travel to Berlin, Germany; Tirana, Albania; Pristina, Kosovo; and Skopje, North Macedonia.
In Berlin, Administrator Green will deliver keynote remarks at the premiere of a documentary produced by the European Democracy Youth Network that explores the significance of the fall of the Berlin Wall for a rising coalition of civic and political leaders in Eastern and Central Europe. USAID Assistant Administrator Brock Bierman will accompany the Administrator.
In Albania, Administrator Green will meet with government officials to discuss USAID's continued support for Albania's Journey to Self-Reliance and reaffirm the U.S. commitment to assisting Albania on its path to transatlantic integration and accession to the European Union.
In Kosovo, Administrator Green will meet with leaders of national political parties to discuss USAID's ongoing work in promoting citizen-responsive governance and fighting corruption. He will then participate in the launch of the Pilot Incentives of Energy Efficiency activity, implemented by the Millennium Foundation Kosovo, funded by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) under the MCC Threshold Agreement in Kosovo. He will also engage with youth at the launch of Kosovo's webpage on USAID's YouthLead online platform. He will also meet with representatives of non-governmental organizations, civil society and young people from the Kosovo-Serb community, women entrepreneurs, and local influencers whose commitment to success is elevating them to a leadership role in their respective sectors.
Finally, in North Macedonia, Administrator Green will discuss the Journey to Self-Reliance and USAID's focus on building effective partnerships with the private sector with Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Dr. Kocho Angjushev. He will also tour Fx3x, a globally-recognized animation studio headquartered in Skopje that has worked on such Hollywood blockbusters as Transformers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and The Martian. With the help of seed funding from USAID, Fx3x has become an award-winning and Oscar-nominated company with its own school that is training the next generation of animators. He will also travel to Tetovo to visit South East European University, a private-public university of over 6,000 students, founded in 2001 as a multilingual, multicultural institution through the collaborative efforts of USAID, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and other international donors.
USAID's Deputy Assistant Administrator for Europe and Eurasia Gretchen Birkle will accompany the Administrator in Kosovo and North Macedonia.
