G-link, a civil society partner of USAID’s Healthy Markets activity, has been shortlisted (out of over 350 nominations) for the Asia Pacific Coalition on Male Sexual Health’s HIV, Equality and Rights (HERO) Awards, which acknowledges outstanding HIV responses to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities in the Asia/Pacific region.
Only 60% of people living with HIV (PLHIV) in Vietnam are covered under Social Health Insurance (SHI), compared to 75% for the general population. In the wake of declining donor funding, the number of PLHIV covered under SHI needs to increase.
Vietnam is currently trying to reform social security contributions procedures to improve its business environment. On September 28, USAID’s Governance for Inclusive Growth Program and the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM), one of Vietnam’s leading economic think-tanks, invited government and business representatives to a consultative workshop.
On September 29, USAID collaborated with the Ministry of Transportation and the Vietnam Federation for Disability to host a workshop in Hanoi to improve ground transportation access for people with disabilities.
Last week, USAID’s Low Emission Energy Program led a workshop focused on how to reduce their energy usage and save money. It was attended by representatives from Vietnam’s energy intensive industries including steel, cement, textiles, building materials and food processing.
