G-link, a civil society partner of USAID’s Healthy Markets activity, has been shortlisted (out of over 350 nominations) for the Asia Pacific Coalition on Male Sexual Health’s HIV, Equality and Rights (HERO) Awards, which acknowledges outstanding HIV responses to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities in the Asia/Pacific region. G-link was nominated because they opened the first LGBT-led clinic in Vietnam, with USAID support, and the first private clinic in the country to be licensed by the government to provide HIV treatment services. G-link will attend the HERO awards, to find out if they have won, on Sunday November 12. So What? G-link has filled a critical gap in access to HIV prevention and treatment in Vietnam for those most at risk, who often face social barriers to services at public health facilities. By being shortlisted for the HERO award, their contribution to the HIV response in Vietnam is being recognized internationally, raising their profile and potentially opening the door for more collaboration and growth.
