On September 29, USAID collaborated with the Ministry of Transportation and the Vietnam Federation for Disability to host a workshop in Hanoi to improve ground transportation access for people with disabilities. Representatives from provincial Transportation Departments, several NGO advocacy groups and private transportation companies participated in the workshop. The event was part of USAID’s Protecting the Rights of Persons with Disabilities project, which works to protect and advocate for the social and physical rights of persons with disabilities and help them exercise these rights. So What? By improving the understanding of what is required to improve access for persons with disabilities, transportation service providers and policy makers in Vietnam can enhance access to public transportation for vulnerable populations which will allow them to lead more independent and productive lives.
