Public health experts from Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Health, Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Phthisiology and Pulmonology, and the Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan traveled to Tajikistan on July 3 to meet with their colleagues at the Republic of Tajikistan National Tuberculosis (TB) Program, TB care facilities, Center for Promotion of Healthy Lifestyle, Women’s Committee, and non-government organizations.
U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Deputy Assistant Administrator for Central and South Asia, Javier Piedra, visited Tajikistan as part of his first official visit to Central Asia. Deputy Assistant Administrator Piedra, who oversees USAID’s development assistance in the region, including programs that promote inclusive growth, education, health and food security, visited Dushanbe and western Khatlon to see first-hand how USAID programs are operating in Tajikistan.
To raise public awareness of tuberculosis (TB) and its impact on public health, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through its TB Control Program with its partners the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population, the National Tuberculosis Program, and the Republican Center for Healthy Lifestyles recognized World Tuberculosis (TB) Day.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Republic of Tajikistan’s Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population held a National Workshop on “Patient-Centered Approaches in Tuberculosis (TB) Care in Tajikistan.”
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) works with local partners to bring a new, shorter treatment regimen for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB), recommended by the World Health Organization, to MDR-TB patients in Tajikistan. During a small ceremony, USAID Tajikistan Country Office Director Kate Crawford and National TB Program Director Asliddin Rajabov congratulated the first ten people who have successfully completed this new regimen.
USAID/Central Asia Tajikistan Country Director Katherine Crawford, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Khayriniso Yusufi, and First Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection of Population Saida Umarzoda gathered government officials, donor representatives, and other key stakeholders at a ceremony to celebrate and close the three-year project, Tajikistan Technical Support to Reduce Micronutrient Deficiencies. This project has been funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN).
The United States Chargé d'Affaires Kevin Covert joined the Deputy Head of Vahdat District Farzona Khojazoda and the Director of the Vahdat District AIDS Center Abdurashid Rajabov at a World AIDS Day event to help raise awareness about HIV in Tajikistan and around the world through musical performances, quizzes on HIV, and sports and drawing competitions.
U.S. Chargѐ d’Affaires Kevin Covert joined Deputy Minister of Education and Science Latofat Naziri, local education officials and stakeholders, implementing partners, students, librarians, and teachers to celebrate the shared accomplishments of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Quality Reading Project partnership as it closes after four years.
Dushanbe, Tajikistan, July 26, 2017 – U. S. Ambassador Elisabeth Millard participated in a forum on “Innovative Water Management for Sustainable Development.” The forum, organized by the USAID Local Governance Project and chaired by the First Deputy of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources Mr. Sulton Rahimzoda, focused on improving the quality and management of drinking water supply services in Tajikistan. More than 60 participants, including key government counterparts, representatives of the water sector, chairmen of districts and jamoats, and development partners discussed the current state of the drinking water supply in rural Tajikistan and identified ways to increase access through investment and improved management.
