Dushanbe, Tajikistan, December 29, 2020 – The U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe, through its new U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission, provided to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection the first delivery of equipment associated with a $2.6 million program to support the provision of medical oxygen for patients battling COVID-19 in Tajikistan.  This oxygen support program adds to almost $5 million of medical assistance the U.S. government has already provided to Tajikistan to combat COVID-19 throughout 2020.

Acting USAID Tajikistan Mission Director Keith Simmons handed over 200 medical oxygen cylinders to the First Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population Gafur Mukhsinzoda during a ceremony on December 29.  Tajikistan is among 11 countries to receive oxygen assistance from the U.S. government, which totals $18 million dollars globally.

Public organizations SPIN Plus and Amali Nek, supported by the Public Fund AFEW Kazakhstan and within the framework of USAID’s HIV React Project, are holding a thematic photo exhibition – "On the Edge." The purpose of the exhibition is to change the public’s attitude toward former prisoners, and create a tolerant and supportive environment conducive to their socialization.

Usaid Celebrates Achievements in Tuberculosis Control in Tajikistan

USAID jointly with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population and the Republican Center for Protection of the Population from Tuberculosis hosted an event to celebrate accomplishments of the USAID Tuberculosis (TB) Control and Challenge TB programs in Tajikistan during the last five years.  The event highlighted U.S. government contributions to reduce TB cases and deaths in the country.

U.S. Government Marks International Book Day In Public Schools in Tajikistan

U.S. Government Launches New Agribusiness Project in Tajikistan

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) officially launched a new five-year project, the Agribusiness Competitiveness Activity in Tajikistan, in Bokhtar City. Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy Kevin Covert and Deputy Governor of Khatlon Rajabov Rajabali welcomed around 180 participants at the ceremony, including representatives from the Khatlon government, the private sector, and local entrepreneurs and traders.

The U.S. Government Supports Women Entrepreneurs in Farah 2018 Competition

The National Association of Business Women of Tajikistan (NABWT) has announced the winners of the Farah 2018 Woman Entrepreneur of the Year competition.  Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the United States Kevin Covert participated in presenting diplomas and prizes to the winners, and the competition’s general sponsor IMON Internationalawarded 100,000 Tajik somoni to the grand prize winner.  NABWT conducted the contest in cooperation with the Government of Tajikistan, the State Committee for Investment and the State Property Management, the Committee for Women and Family Affairs, and through the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The U.S. Government and Khatlon Regional government Host First-ever Horticulture Trade Forum

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Khatlon regional government hosted the first-ever horticulture trade forum in Khatlon, a two-day event that provided networking and partnership opportunities for more than 300 horticulture producers, traders, and buyers from Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and the Kyrgyz Republic. Attendees also discussed innovative solutions to stimulate trade and promote horticultural exports in Central Asia.
