USAID Celebrates Completion of Readers are Leaders Project and Its Achievements

Today at Aleksandar Palace Hotel in Skopje, USAID’s Readers are Leaders celebrated five years of achievements in improving early literacy in Macedonia at the closing ceremony of the project. USAID Country Representative David Atteberry, Minister of Education and Science Renata Deskoska, representatives from educational institutions, teacher training faculties and primary schools attended the event.

USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator for Europe and Eurasia Gretchen Birkle joined U.S. Defense Attaché Lieutenant Colonel Eric Rice, Mayor of Kavadarci Mitko Jancev, representatives of USAID’s Youth Ethnic Integration project, and members of the Kavardaci business community for a ribbon-cutting ceremony inaugurating a new concert hall and marking the completion of Lazo Micev Rale Music School’s renovation. The concert hall and school renovation were financed jointly by USAID and the U.S.

More than 200 students and teachers from primary schools from across the country joined the celebration and participated in educational activities.

Today, May 16, 2018, USAID’s Readers are Leaders project hosted a “Reading and Math Olympics” at the Shkolka stage in Skopje City Park. More than 200 students and teachers from primary schools from across the country joined the celebration and participated in educational activities. Students had the chance to collaborate with their peers to solve interesting reading and math challenges, and teachers shared best practices on teaching language and math with their colleagues from other schools.

Today, May 09, 2018, USAID’s Partnership for Better Business Regulation project facilitated the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Government of Macedonia and the four largest chambers of commerce in the country. The MoU seeks to strengthen dialogue between the public and private sectors on issues affecting legal compliance of companies in Macedonia. This MoU is a big step forward in the process of building a stable and fruitful relationship between the chamber of commerce, and between the chambers and the Government.
