Women in Kosovo have struggled for years to overcome cultural bias and historical precedent, and break into leadership and decision-making roles.  Poor media coverage of both female politicians and women’s issues exacerbates this imbalance, and creates additional challenges for overcoming traditional gender stereotypes and attitudes in Kosovo.

On May 17, Ambassador Kosnett, alongside government and international partners, spoke at an event marking International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia.  Two Kosovo-based civil society organizations, Centre for Social Group Development and the Center for Equality and Liberty, organized the event, which brought together representatives from Government of Kosovo institutions, civil society organizations, and international partners.

The USAID Transformational Leadership Program (TLP) - Citizens Corps component held its third-annual “Volunteer of the Year” event on April 25. The “Volunteer of the Year” event recognizes TLP graduates who have made tremendously positive impacts on their communities, and further promotes civic engagement and participation among Kosovo’s youth. The fifth-annual Girls in ICT Day conference brought together 185 individuals, with 137 people attending various ICT workshops on April 26. The event, organized by IPKO Foundation, is held in more than 150 countries, and offers an opportunity for young women in information and communications technology (ICT) fields to connect with international ICT leaders, participate in workshops, and network with Kosovo ICT companies at a job fair. At this year’s job fair, 25 participating businesses met more than 250 individuals and held over 20 interviews.
