Afya Halisi is a five year USAID funded project that was awarded in October 2017 to strengthen the capacity of national, county, and sub-county leaders and systems so that they can enhance the efficiency of existing health systems to increase sustainability, prioritize populations most in need, increase equity, and scale-up high impact interventions and practices to improve quality.

Afya Ugavi is a five-year health system strengthening activity funded by USAID under the Global Health Supply Chain – Procurement and Supply Management (GHSC-PSM) contract. The GHSC-PSM project connects technical solutions, experts, and proven commercial processes to promote efficient and cost-effective health supply chains worldwide with operations in Africa, Asia, Central America, and the Caribbean.

Access to quality and affordable health care continues to burden the nomadic pastoral populations in the hard to reach areas of arid and semi-arid lands. Underpinning factors include greater difficulty in traveling to health facilities, less diversity in health care resources to choose from and high illiteracy levels. Harsh climates make it difficult to attract and retain health facility workers in the few existing health facilities.

USAID supports the health sector with high-impact, evidence-based interventions. Due to the devolution of health sector management and service delivery to 47 counties, our interventions focus at the county level with targeted support at the national level.We work with the Government of Kenya, civil society, faith-based organizations and the private sector on HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care; family planning and reproductive, maternal, neonatal, child and adolescent health; nutrition; water, sanitation and hygiene; malaria prevention and treatment; and tuberculosis control and treatment. Interventions include technical assistance to support health service delivery; training of healthcare professionals; procurement and management of health commodities; health communication and marketing; human resources for health; health financing; and health information management.
