The United States Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is donating 200 brand-new, state-of-the-art ventilators to Kenya to assist its fight against COVID-19. The donation delivers on President Trump’s generous offer of these critically needed supplies and supports Kenya’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On October 4, the United States through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) announced a new Sh759 million ($7 million) 3-year Local Works program in the Mara landscape, Northern, and Coastal Kenya to support local communities recover from the loss of tourism and livelihoods due to adverse impacts of COVID-19. Local Works will engage local leaders and community members to design solutions that will attract and increase private sector investment, support economic empowerment of local communities, especially for women and youth, and enhance the capacity of community conservancies to access funding necessary for them to thrive and establish stable livelihoods .

The U.S. Government announced today that it will support the Government of Kenya’s efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 through an additional $500,000 investment. The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will implement the response in collaboration with Kenya’s Ministry of Health and County Governments. Today’s announcement brings total U.S. assistance for Kenya’s response to COVID-19 to $1 million.
The United States government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)’s Office of Food for Peace (FFP) announces the arrival of 18,300 metric tons of food assistance at the Mombasa port. The bulk shipment, which will be distributed through the World Food Program (WFP), arrived at port this week and is valued at approximately KES 340 million ($3.4 million). The assistance is part of the larger U.S. government support to Kenya for food security relief and long-term resilience building among vulnerable Kenyans which in 2019 totaled almost KES 10.2 billion ($102 million).

Today, Kenya Resilient Arid Lands Partnership for Integrated Development (Kenya RAPID) launched Bula Mpya Water System that will serve 1,500 people in Isiolo. This program is supported by the United States government through USAID, in partnership with the Millennium Water Alliance, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, Coca-Cola Foundation’s Replenish Africa Initiative (RAIN), and County Government of Isiolo. The Bula Mpya Water System is part of the U.S. global water strategy which envisions a water-secure world, one in which people and nations have the water they need to be healthy, prosperous, and resilient. USAID Deputy Administrator Bonnie Glick presented remarks at the launch.
Today, 4,000 Kenyan youth graduated from Generation Kenya with new skills to help them find and keep employment in high growth sectors and secure a prosperous future for themselves. Generation Kenya is a public-private program, supported by the U.S. government through its development agency, USAID, and in collaboration with McKinsey & Company, Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) and Safaricom Foundation. USAID Mission Director Mark Meassick and Generation Kenya CEO Ramakrishnan Hariharan presided over the graduation ceremonies.
