Speech
As part of USAID’s continued commitment to support Philippine aspirations for inclusive growth, last year, we launched a new partnership with PBEd to improve youth access to training and employment opportunities, and engage the private sector in workforce development. Our partnership is expected to create over 4,000 work-based training positions for youth, and these positions will be complemented with classroom-based skills training and competency certification.
Speech
Building upon our years of partnership with the Filipino people, USAID continues to support Philippine aspirations for inclusive growth. In line with this, we strategically build upon Filipino talent and expand opportunities for science, technology and innovation to advance, broaden and sustain growth.
Speech
The United States Agency for International Development, or USAID, recognizes rule of law as one of the key elements of the country’s pursuit of inclusive and resilient economic growth. In light of this, USAID and the Supreme Court of the Philippines launched the JUSTICE project in 2012 to improve judicial efficiency and integrity.
Speech
In the past two weeks, I had the pleasure of visiting a number of U.S. government-supported sites in Benguet and Iloilo City and witnessed firsthand the admirable work of our Philippines partners — health workers, disaster volunteers, fisherfolk leaders, and others — who are delivering basic services reach the most needy. Today, I am deeply honored to be among Philippine government leaders who are so well-positioned to ensure that needed funds continue to flow to support government initiatives that will enable all Filipinos to map a better future for themselves.
Speech
The United States government works closely with the Philippine government and our local partners in attaining our shared goal for advancing sustainable fisheries. We recognize that illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing practices put law-abiding fishers and seafood producers at a disadvantage. They also threaten global food security.
Speech
Back in 2013, the U.S. government partnered with the Department of Health to implement three major family planning and maternal and child health projects: LuzonHealth, VisayasHealth, and MindanaoHealth.
Through these three projects, USAID has contributed over 4 billion pesos to address the problems associated with lack of access to family health services and teen pregnancy.
Speech
More than five years ago, the United States Agency for International Development formed a partnership with the DENR to protect the Philippine forests. Today’s event celebrates the many milestones that we have achieved together through the B+WISER project.
Speech
I am here today to reaffirm the U.S. government’s commitment to our shared vision of advancing and sustaining inclusive and resilient growth in the Philippines.
To attain this goal, USAID is a close partner of the Philippine government in joint strategies that support the government’s 10-point socioeconomic agenda. Together, we invest in human capital development and use science, technology and innovation to bolster growth. The Inclusive Filipinnovation and Entrepreneurship Roadmap, earlier unveiled by Dr. Fita Aldaba, further specifies how these strategies can be used to transform this vision into a reality.
Speech
Indeed, water is and will always be a vital natural resource that lives depend on, as well as a key input to economic growth. This is why USAID works to save lives and advance development through improvements in water supply, sanitation and hygiene, and through sound management and use of water for food security.
While the Philippines continues to make significant gains in expanding water access, more work remains to address the country’s vulnerability to extreme weather variations — such as prolonged droughts, sea level rise and intensifying typhoons.
