Launched in 2017, the USAID Advancing Social Cohesion project is a four-year activity to improve relationships among children and youth across ethnicities, religions, and social divisions, and increase public awareness about ethnic integration and social cohesion. The project provides training to teachers, state educational inspectors, and pedagogical students on multicultural education. It also organizes outreach and sports activities for students from targeted primary schools across North Macedonia. Through 24 episodes of an innovative reality TV show, the project will highlight youth from diverse backgrounds working together to address common issues they face in their communities.
USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator for Europe and Eurasia Gretchen Birkle joined U.S. Defense Attaché Lieutenant Colonel Eric Rice, Mayor of Kavadarci Mitko Jancev, representatives of USAID’s Youth Ethnic Integration project, and members of the Kavardaci business community for a ribbon-cutting ceremony inaugurating a new concert hall and marking the completion of Lazo Micev Rale Music School’s renovation. The concert hall and school renovation were financed jointly by USAID and the U.S.
Today, March 30, 2018, USAID hosted a leadership conference on Macedonia’s Journey from Development to Self-Reliance, at MKC in Skopje. The half-day conference included inspirational talks by some of the best and brightest of Macedonia’s young talent, articulating their personal stories of success, and a panel discussion on “What does it take to be successful in Macedonia?”. The event wrapped up USAID’s commemoration of its 25 year anniversary in Macedonia.
USAID’s Factoring project, in collaboration with the Economic Chamber of Macedonia, conducted the first conference on Factoring as a Financial Solution that Enables SMEs’ Growth at the Economic Chamber of Macedonia, Skopje.
Today, March 7, 2018, USAID’s Social Inclusion though Technology project (SIT) held its closing event and officially inaugurated HUBIT! — the first center in Macedonia and in the region that will offer services to youth with disabilities and help them prepare for careers in IT as well as provide services to companies to help them increase the accessibility of their services and products. HUBIT! was established through SIT and was awarded a grant from the European Union Smart Start Project.
