WHAT IS THE INCREASED POLITICAL COMPETITION AND ACCOUNTABILITY PROJECT?

This eight-year project is implemented in cooperation with the International Republican Institute (IRI), the National Democratic Institute (NDI), and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) to promote political competition and accountability in North Macedonia.

WHAT HAS BEEN ACCOMPLISHED?

  • Political parties better understand the need to be inclusive of North Macedonia’s diverse population and fashion public policy responses that address citizen needs.
  • Civil society organizations have enhanced their engagement in institutional politics as policy/ constituency advocates in the legislative processes.
  • Parliament has increased its capacity to secure its constituently mandated oversight role over the executive branch. 
  • Women politicians and members of parliament are more ready to cooperate with their peer-opponents on common issues. 
  • Improved government capacity to develop and implement consensus building and reform oriented governance agenda for a functional system of checks and balances.
  • Better environment for free and fair elections.
