All across Kosovo, citizens are beginning to call for change.  But making change happen in daily life is a challenge, especially for youth.  Over the last three months, USAID/Kosovo has been using a tri-fold approach of engaging youth in their future through the Kosovo: My Country, Our Journey campaign that focuses on youth and their important role in Kosovo’s future.

On June 13, Kosovo marked an important moment in its recent history: the 20th anniversary of NATO engagement following air strikes. This event was a tipping point for Kosovo, even as the obviously large-scale damage and destruction at the time promised a long road to recovery. 

In the aftermath of the conflict, nearly 50 percent of the housing stock in Kosovo was either completely destroyed or badly damaged.  Access to basic services, like water and electricity, was unreliable, and the health system was completely non-functional.

The establishment of the private enforcement profession five years ago has dramatically improved enforcement of civil judgments in Kosovo.  To mark the fifth anniversary of Kosovo’s private enforcement system, over 120 key figures from government institutions, courts, and the region gathered on July 15 to commemorate this milestone.

Kosovo has a large trade deficit, but exports of high value crops have been growing rapidly thanks to a USAID partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture.  A recent grant to berry producers will expand strawberry and raspberry production and boost employment and exports.  A total of €372,933 issued to the three berry producers will add eight hectares of strawberries, 10 hectares of raspberries, and 3.5 hectares of blueberries to Kosovo’s production.
