AIDS, Population and Health Integrated Assistance (APHIAplus) IMARISHA

Speeches Shim

APHIAplus IMARISHA is currently in its seventh year of implementation. Since its inception in March 2012, the project has made significant progress in supporting improved health service delivery in Garissa, Isiolo, Mandera, Marsabit, Samburu, Tana River, Turkana and Wajir counties, as well as making an impact in addressing social determinants of health which greatly affect health outcomes in this region. The project has been responsive to specific county contexts as each of the counties has diverse communities within it with different socio-cultural and religious practices and norms which affect health in varying ways.
USAID recently approved a 15-month (April 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019) cost-extension application for Amref Health Africa in Kenya to provide quality HIV services while strengthening the health system for sustained impact and transitioning support for HIV services management to Garissa, Isiolo, Mandera, Marsabit, Tana River and Wajir counties. Members of a community group from Archers Post, Samburu County display a vegetable nursey made possible with the support of the American people through USAID. Access to water supply has made it possible for locals to grow nutritious foods to supplement local diets.
