Today, U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink announced that the U.S. Government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), will be providing an additional $5 million to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Vietnamese economy. The funds will be utilized to bring much needed resources to bear immediately, including supporting private sector recovery by i) enhancing access to finance for businesses; ii) improving business support capacity during an expected surge in demand; and iii) partnering with Government of Vietnam (GVN) stakeholders to bolster the GVN’s relief interventions.

USAID LinkSME, in close coordination with Government of Vietnam counterparts and business support organizations, has been working with the private sector in Vietnam to address gaps in the PPE supply chain. Building on last week’s air cargo shipment of 810,000 isolation gowns produced by a Vietnamese manufacturer, USAID LinkSME is now supporting follow-on orders of 790,000 isolation gowns, 250,000 headcovers, and 50,000 shoe covers. USAID LinkSME continues to support follow-on orders and seek raw material solutions for Vietnamese manufacturers to produce medical PPE.

Identifying opportunities to improve global health requires innovation and creative thinking. In developing countries like Uganda, the COVID-19 pandemic is impacting the already-strained health system. Access to primary health care remains difficult for many people, and quality of care is inconsistent, with limited drugs, supplies and human resources. The referral system is weak and patients often delay seeking necessary secondary or tertiary care due to the high costs involved. Additionally, evidence-based management of logistics is not consistently followed and facility-based quality improvement initiatives, while they exist, have not been institutionalized uniformly.

On April 16, the U.S. Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), announced an additional $3 million to India to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.  In coordination with the Government of India, USAID is providing these funds to the Partnerships for Affordable Healthcare Access and Longevity (PAHAL) project, an innovative financing platform of IPE Global.

The United States Government committed $2.5 million to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in Peru. The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) announced it is providing this assistance in alliance with Socios En Salud (SES), the Peruvian affiliate of the U.S. non-profit organization Partners In Health (PIH) that has worked in Peru since 1996
