“I am fortunate to be here,” says Noah Kafumbe, who arrived in Uganda in 2018 to join the USAID mission as Senior Supply Chain Systems Advisor. Kafumbe, born and raised in Uganda, returned to his home country with his wife and their three children after twenty years in the United States and the United Kingdom - and three academic degrees, including a PhD, in his pocket.
Feed the Future Tanzania Mboga na Matunda (“Vegetables and Fruits”) increases the productivity of horticulture activities that add value to product, while integrating women and youth. Through collaboration with dozens of private sector partners, the activity stimulates women’s engagement in horticulture by training them in crop production, technologies, markets, access to inputs, and nutrition. Currently, of the over 50,000 individuals trained by the activity, 47 percent are women.
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the United States Government has committed over $37 million to Ethiopia to help mitigate the spread of the virus. Through the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the United States is working closely with partners from the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Peace, the Ethiopia Public Health Institute, the National Disaster Risk Management Commission (NDRMC), and other international and local partners to provide life-saving support in response to the ongoing coronavirus emergency.
The U.S. government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has provided over $22 million to complement the Government of Bangladesh’s ongoing efforts to prepare and respond to the spread of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). This funding builds on more than $1 billion in health assistance provided to Bangladesh over the past 20 years and underscores the long-term U.S. commitment to ensuring access to quality, lifesaving health services for all people in Bangladesh.
The U.S. Embassy in the Philippines announced today that the U.S. government is providing an additional Php298 million ($5.9 million) to help support the Philippines in the fight against COVID-19, bringing the total amount of U.S. pandemic assistance to the Philippines to more than Php768 million ($15.2 million).
