The Safe Migration in Central Asia project uses evidence-based practices and cross-border connections to strengthen the mutual accountability and effectiveness of governments, NGOs, and the private sector to prevent trafficking-in-persons, protect survivors, and promote safe migration, as part of USAID’s Asia-wide suite of counter-trafficking interventions. Safe Migration in Central Asia is a five-year project implemented by Winrock International in Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Karyahan is a dedicated farmer with seven children. She and her family live in Lebap, situated in the northeast region of Turkmenistan. Karyahan was looking for a way to use her passion for farming to meet the financial needs of her family. Karyahan dreamed of having her own orchard: “I wanted to do something meaningful and do it well. I was always good with tending fruit trees. So, I decided to lease my own land and plant a fruit orchard.”
The Civil Society Support Program in Central Asia is a five-year, $18 million program implemented by Eurasia Foundation to cultivate a vibrant and responsive civil society throughout the region, including Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, and build a new generation of forward-looking civil society leaders (2019-2024).
Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) concluded a workshop for the Central Asian Ministries of Energy, utilities and power system operators to discuss benefits of regional electricity trade and to review energy market models applicable to Central Asia.
Energy is critical for economic growth across Central Asia. Providing clean, renewable energy and improving energy efficiency can solve issues of national and regional energy security, stability, and growing emissions. Clean energy can provide needed generation capacity from domestic resources and improve opportunities for cross-border trade. Yet, each country in Central Asia is driven by different priorities and challenges in their power sector. Thus, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has launched the Power the Future program, which works in all countries of Central Asia. The goal of the program is to accelerate the regional transition to cost effective, low emission, climate resilient economies, primarily through increasing the deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency in all five Central Asian countries.
