Jene Thomas is currently serving as the Mission Director of USAID/Peru. He has worked for the Agency for 22 years; his most recent assignments include USAID/Haiti Mission Director (2016-2019) and Director of the Office of Caribbean Affairs in Washington, DC (2014-2015). His Foreign Service assignments include Mexico, Afghanistan, Colombia, and Pakistan. Throughout his USAID career, Mr. Thomas has specialized in issues relating to democracy, governance, and human rights.
Prior to USAID, Mr. Thomas worked for the US Army Corps of Engineers in Germany; the US Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, DC; a local NGO in the Dominican Republic; the US Peace Corps in Mali; the Texas Water Commission; and an environmental consulting firm in his hometown, Austin, Texas. Mr. Thomas earned a B.A. in Geology at the University of Texas at Austin. He also studied Public Policy at the University of Maryland and Environmental Management and Sustainable Development at the Iberoamerican University in Mexico City.
