Occupational Therapy (OT), a relatively new practice in Vietnam, is one of three vital rehabilitation interventions (along with Physical and Speech/Language Therapy) that improves persons with disabilities’ independence and enables participation in social activities. USAID recently hosted Vietnam’s first OT professionals meeting, bringing together more than fifty practitioners from the Ministry of Health, hospitals and universities.
A recent review by the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) revealed that the quality of legal aid services was poor in remote areas. To improve this situation, the USAID Governance for Inclusive Growth Program and MOJ recently trained legal counselors from these areas in the southern provinces of Vietnam.
On July 17-22, the USAID Governance for Inclusive Growth Program collaborated with Indiana University and the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s Academy of Policy and Development ― the leading policy research and analysis training institution in Vietnam ― to conduct two training courses aimed to improve policy analysis and leadership skills of central and provincial government officials.
With technical assistance from the USAID Sustainable HIV Response from Technical Assistance Project, the People’s Committee of Bac Giang province recently issued a new policy, committing the provincial government to cover SHI premiums and ARV drug copayments for all HIV patients in the province for the period 2017 – 2020. This landmark decision makes Bac Giang the second province in Vietnam to ensure that all people living with HIV have access to free social health insurance coverage for their HIV treatment needs.
