USAID has been supporting  the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) to produce the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) report since 2005. The PCI Report provides an independent, unbiased view by surveying over 12,500 firms in all 63 provinces. It gauges both foreign and domestic firms’ issues at the provincial level and is a trusted way to measure the business enabling environment for private sector and government stakeholders alike.

When people suffer from strokes, cerebral palsy, or traumatic brain injuries, it will likely result in a disability if they do not get proper intervention. Hence, it is necessary for them to start rehabilitation as soon as possible as it gives them the best opportunity to regain normal abilities. However, the absence of rehabilitation guidelines in Vietnam has limited the delivery of effective care in these situations. In order to address this, last year, USAID’s Advancing Medical Care and Rehabilitation Education project partnered with Vietnam’s Ministry of Health to develop the first set of rehabilitation practice guidelines, which have been successfully applied in several hospitals throughout the country on a pilot scale.

USAID’s Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) supports an important consortium of five organizations to help Vietnam increase its resilience to natural disasters such as floods, droughts, and typhoons. The Consortium’s members include the Vietnam Red Cross/American Red Cross, Catholic Relief Services, Plan International, Save the Children, and HelpAge International. On June 25, USAID and its partners launched Phase III of the Building Resilience to Natural Hazards in Central Vietnam project. Since Phase I began in October 2015, the project has provided support to 61 communes/wards and 64 primary and secondary schools in four highly vulnerable Central Region provinces (Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Ha Tinh, and Quang Tri), reaching approximately 147,500 people directly and 674,000 people indirectly. Phase III will provide support to 20 communes/wards within the same four Central provinces.
