When people suffer from strokes, cerebral palsy, or traumatic brain injuries, it will likely result in a disability if they do not get proper intervention. Hence, it is necessary for them to start rehabilitation as soon as possible as it gives them the best opportunity to regain normal abilities. However, the absence of rehabilitation guidelines in Vietnam has limited the delivery of effective care in these situations. In order to address this, last year, USAID’s Advancing Medical Care and Rehabilitation Education project partnered with Vietnam’s Ministry of Health to develop the first set of rehabilitation practice guidelines, which have been successfully applied in several hospitals throughout the country on a pilot scale. To increase access to these guidelines, USAID partnered with OneDay Software, a small business run by persons with disabilities, to make them available through a mobile application.

So What? Providing easy access to international standard rehabilitation guidelines will allow practitioners and medical professionals to effectively respond to injuries and improve the quality of service for persons with disabilities.
