Tourism in Timor-Leste will see a significant rise in business investment and increased employment under an agreement that supports the country’s national tourism strategy announced today by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The United States – through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and its civil society partners – is providing support for close to 1,000 domestic and international observers spread across Timor-Leste to monitor parliamentary Election Day activities on July 22.
Customs operations in Timor-Leste will be reformed and streamlined to promote economic development, greater business transparency and security and adoption of world trade standards under a new $5-million project announced today by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Timor-Leste Ministry of Finance.
Located between Indonesia and Australia, Timor-Leste is one of the world’s newest countries. Having gained independence in 2002 after decades of conflict, the country is now working to build its new democracy with still-nascent institutions, limited human capital, and significant economic and health challenges. The United States is committed to helping Timor-Leste realize its development goals and emerge as a strong, regional partner.
The project, implemented by the Consortium for Elections and Political Process Strengthening (CEPPS), is a key driver of Timor-Leste’s efforts to improve governance. The project works with the national parliament, parliamentary caucuses and political parties with an emphasis on women and youth to create a more inclusive and transparent government.
