William Hall, Acting Deputy Mission Director for the U.S Agency for International Development (USAID) in Tajikistan recognized USAID’s Leader for People Living with HIV activity for combatting discrimination toward people living with HIV and reducing barriers to treatment at a virtual event today.

The primary goal of the USAID Read with Me Project is to improve the reading skills of primary grade students in targeted schools throughout Tajikistan. The five-year project (October 2016 – September 2021) increases the availability of quality reading materials; provides in-service training for teachers; creates innovations and partnerships that support literacy outcomes; and increases government support for reading.
The Khatlon region is well-known in Tajikistan for producing vegetables, especially early-season vegetables in high demand in markets across the country. Adolat Berdieva, a farmer in Madaniyat village, Jamoat “Vakhdati Milli” of Jayhun district, has been growing vegetables for more than a decade. Adolat’s husband travels to Russia every year for seasonal work, so she often works alone.
The U.S. government announced the launch of a bilateral U.S Agency for International Development (USAID) mission in Tajikistan, which is an elevation from its previous status as a branch of the regional USAID mission based in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Establishing a full USAID mission in Tajikistan marks the next step in deepening the United States’ partnership with the government and people of Tajikistan.
