The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) launched the Yidgiri activity aimed at increasing resilience of agricultural and livestock market systems in Burkina Faso. The 5-year activity will cultivate relationships among farmers, producer organizations and agribusinesses in order to provide markets with greater capacity to adapt to challenges such as droughts, floods and economic and security crises—and help ensure populations have uninterrupted access to sufficient food.
This study was conducted as part of the value chain analysis for Resilience and Economic Growth in the Sahel – Accelerated Growth (REGIS-AG), a USAID activity focusing on vulnerable populations in three regions each of Niger and Burkina Faso. REGIS-AG is part of USAID’s Resilience in the Sahel Enhanced (RISE) project, with a focus to increase incomes and resilience of vulnerable populations in communities in three regions of Niger (Tillabéri-Sud, Maradi and Zinder) and three “départements” of Burkina Faso (Dori, Kaya, Bogandé).
Resilience in the Sahel Enhanced (RISE) is a multisector program aimed at increasing the resilience of vulnerable households (HHs) in the Sahel region who face climatic, conflict-induced, environmental, and economic shocks that adversely affect their livelihoods.1 The Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) focuses on two five-year USAID RISE projects in Burkina Faso and Niger: Resilience and Economic Growth in the Sahel - Enhanced Resilience (REGIS-ER) implemented by NCBA-CLUSA, and Resilience and Economic Growth in the Sahel – Accelerated Growth (REGIS-AG), implemented by CNFA.
The USAID-funded Resilience and Economic Growth in the Sahel–Accelerated Growth Project (REGIS-AG) was launched in 2015 as part of USAID’s Resilience in the Sahel Enhanced (RISE) initiative. REGIS-AG is designed to increase the incomes of vulnerable households by increasing the performance and inclusiveness of the cowpea, poultry and small ruminant value chains and thereby increase resilience in selected agro-pastoral and marginal agricultural zones of Niger and Burkina Faso.
