LAJKOVAC – On Tuesday, October 17, 2017, the U.S. government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) officially inaugurated a newly constructed sports field in the town of Lajkovac, to be used by children from the nearby kindergarten, elementary, and secondary school, as well as refugee and migrant children from the Asylum Center in Bogovadja, Lajkovac municipality.

Construction works in the value of $50,000 included land preparation, and the installation of tracks, a fence, lights and a video surveillance system. The sports field includes tartan, astro turf and sand surfaces – for 100m runs, the long-jump, and development of motor skills.

The construction of the sports field is part of the USAID’s $1.3 million Enhancing Local Resilience to the Migration Crisis activity, implemented by UNDP.  The activity helps improve public services and infrastructure in Serbian municipalities affected by the migrant crisis.  The improvements help the communities cope with the effects of the crisis and benefit both the local population and the refugees.
