Belgrade - On July 8, 2019, the United States Government and the Government of Serbia signed agreements under which the United States will provide $20.8 million in assistance to Serbia. These funds will be used to continue helping make Serbia's economy more competitive, strengthen the rule of law, bolster government operations, improve the environment for media, and to combat corruption.

“Since 2001, the United States has provided more than $1 billion in assistance to Serbia,“ said United States Ambassador Kyle Scott. “Our assistance to Serbia is integral to our partnership with the government of Serbia and the citizens of Serbia.  We work directly with the government of Serbia, the Serbian private sector, and civil society – but together, we turn to the people of Serbia to identify solutions to the challenges that many are faced with every day.“

In recent years, USAID support to Serbia has:

• Helped increase exports and sales of Serbian food products as well as access to new markets for farmers and livestock growers – by helping to create a more resilient and sustainable support system for Serbia’s private sector companies to grow the economy;  
• Helped amend the Law on Enforcement and Security to expedite and streamline the enforcement process;
• The U.S. has also helped Serbia develop a new approach to strengthen the rule of law, access to justice, and legal certainty to protect the rights and freedoms of citizens and raise the level of trust in the judicial system.
