The U.S. government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), convened the 12th National Education Summit on September 6, 2018 in partnership with the Philippine government and Synergeia Foundation. More than 400 leaders from local governments, schools, and the private sector gathered to share good practices in education governance, including topics such as increasing community engagement, budgeting, partnering with the public and private sector and civil society, and decentralization of basic education. Vice President Leni Robredo delivered the keynote address at the summit.
The United States government shares the Philippine government’s vision for a healthier and more prosperous country. We commend the Philippine government, and the Department of Health, for their unwavering commitment to combat this disease. By eradicating TB and attaining a healthy population, the Philippines will be better positioned to advance into an upper-middle income country and achieve its development goals under Ambisyon Natin 2040.
U.S. Embassy in the Philippines Chargé d’Affaires (CDA) Michael Klecheski and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) launched two five-year projects valued at more than 2.5 billion pesos to support the Philippines’ goal to end tuberculosis (TB).

The Philippines, Southeast Asia’s oldest democracy, is an important development, trade and security partner with the United States. In recent years, the Philippines has made substantial economic progress, although the country still has the least equitable income distribution among all developing countries in East Asia. Through the Partnership for Growth with Equity, the United States and the Philippines collaborate to address the country’s most serious constraints to lasting, equitable growth.
