U.S. Commits Php595 Million to Extend U.S.-Philippines Partnership for Advancing Peace and Stability in Mindanao

The U.S. government announced a Php595 million extension of the Mindanao Peace and Development Assistance Agreement on Tuesday, November 13. The bilateral agreement, a partnership between the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), supports projects that enhance governance, expand economic opportunities, provide infrastructure, and strengthen the foundations of peace in conflict-affected areas of Mindanao.

U.S. Government and DOH Celebrate Improved Health of Filipino Families

The U.S. and Philippine governments celebrated the completion of three U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) health projects which have improved the health of Filipino women, infants, and children. USAID invested Php4 billion nationwide between 2013 and 2018 to expand quality health care for mothers and newborns, reduce teen pregnancies, and support couples to achieve their desired family size.

Back in 2013, the U.S. government partnered with the Department of Health to implement three major family planning and maternal and child health projects: LuzonHealth, VisayasHealth, and MindanaoHealth.

Through these three projects, USAID has contributed over 4 billion pesos to address the problems associated with lack of access to family health services and teen pregnancy.
