The Peshawar-Torkham road project is intended to: Improve local economic opportunities Allow internal and international trade to flow more easily Offer employment opportunities for local workers; and, Extend and support the delivery of basic infrastructure services by the Government of Pakistan.

USAID, through its KP Reconstruction Program, supports the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's efforts to rebuild public infrastructure destroyed during the 2009 military operations against militants, and the 2010 flooding. The program is rebuilding facilities for education, health, water, sanitation, and irrigation. It also is working with the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to improve the capacity of government departments to deliver essential services.

The FATA Institutional Strengthening Project strengthens the ability of the Secretariat and the Development Authority of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) to plan, manage, and oversee stabilization and development activities and to govern more effectively and responsively to citizens' priority concerns. By helping with systems development, training, and critical information technology support, the project supports efforts by these institutions to develop and manage programs at the agency and community level, monitor their implementation, and engage in more effective communication.

The FATA Infrastructure Project (FIP) constructs roads to connect remote communities to markets and facilitate access to essential services; restores electricity infrastructure; and improves access to water for drinking and farming. This program is also supporting the construction of the Kalat­Quetta-­Chaman road in Balochistan, an important cross-­border trade route between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The Political Parties Development Project strengthens democracy by helping political parties create policies that are inclusive, research-driven, and responsive to citizens' concerns.  Such changes will lead to greater confidence in the role of government and the democratic process.  The program especially encourages women and young adults under the age of 35 to engage in the political process.
