The truest test of our devotion to religious freedom, after all, lies in our dedication to securing it … for others. We face challenges as champions of peace and freedom for all of God’s children.

Today, U.S. Agency for International Development Administrator (USAID) Mark Green and Advisor to the President Ivanka Trump announced that the Women's Global Development and Prosperity (W-GDP) Initiative Fund received an additional $50 million in fiscal year (FY) 2018 resources, increasing the Fund to a total of $100 million for its first year.
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) announced $2.5 million dollars to support global research partnerships that will promote advancements across the full spectrum of discovery, from building new knowledge to piloting and scaling game-changing breakthroughs. The Agency selected a total of 32 research projects for funding through the Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research (PEER) program managed by the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. The lead researcher for each project carried out overseas will work in tandem with a U.S. Government-funded researcher. By increasing international scientific cooperation, the United States can accelerate progress on the Journey to Self-Reliance.
On Monday, November 18, 2019, Administrator Mark Green of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and Advisor to the President Ivanka Trump will highlight new partnerships and activities of the Women's Global Development and Prosperity (W-GDP) Initiative. The White House launched W-GDP in February 2019 to advance women's economic empowerment globally, with the goal of reaching 50 million women by 2025.

In the three years since Congress passed the Foreign Aid Transparency and Accountability Act of 2016 (FATAA), the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has made great strides in implementing the law's provisions. The Act created guidelines related to monitoring and evaluation for U.S. Departments and Agencies that invest foreign-assistance resources, and required them to publish quarterly financial and descriptive data on their programs, to create transparency on where they are directing funds and if programs are meeting their goals. USAID was instrumental in providing input into the draft legislation that became the FATAA, and already had in place many of the requirements included in the enacted law.

What an important week in the history of our movement. So, as you all know, tomorrow marks the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. That iconic moment where young men and young women scaled that monstrosity and boldly asserted their freedom. But my friends, as special as that moment was, in all honesty, that's not why I'm here. That's not what I'm here to commemorate. Let me explain. So, 25 years ago -- five years ago, we were approaching the 25th anniversary of the wall's dismantling. I was serving as President of the International Republican Institute, and it dawned on me, as you have said, that many of my young staff weren't even old enough to remember the wall, let alone appreciate the significance of it's toppling. And so, I went to see General Brent Scowcroft, who was on the board of directors of IRI and had served as George H. W. Bush's national security adviser. And I asked him what it was that I should tell today's young people about those days and why those days matter. I'll never forget, he said very simply, "Tell him it wasn't easy. Tell them it was often in doubt."
The United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is providing nearly $56 million in additional humanitarian assistance to help end the ongoing outbreak of Ebola in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the second-largest outbreak of the disease on record. This brings the total USAID funding for the efforts to respond to Ebola to more than $266 million since the beginning of the outbreak in August 2018. This funding also includes support for regional preparedness activities in the DRC and neighboring countries and is in addition to contributions from other U.S. Federal Departments and Agencies and the U.S. private sector.

On November 4, 2019, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Deputy Administrator Bonnie Glick participated in the Indo-Pacific Business Forum in Bangkok, Thailand, alongside senior Administration officials and representatives from the private sector. At the Forum, the Deputy Administrator announced that since the 2018 Indo-Pacific Business Forum, USAID has dedicated an additional $441 million to expand partnerships with governments, civil society, and the private sector in countries in the Indo-Pacific region in support of activities in energy, infrastructure, digital connectivity, trade, and other economic activities. These new programs support the U.S. Government's Indo-Pacific Strategy, the goals of which are to create a region that is peaceful and secure, and in which countries are sovereign; to promote economic growth led by the private sector; and to bolster citizen-responsive governance that facilitates private investment by making economies open, transparent, and rules-based.
U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Deputy Administrator Bonnie Glick traveled to Vietnam from October 30 to November 2, 2019. While in Hanoi, the Deputy Administrator met with Ministry of Health officials, including Vice Minister Truong Quoc Cuong, to discuss the country's national HIV response. The Deputy Administrator commended the Government of Vietnam on its notable progress transitioning the national HIV response to domestic financing-an effort that USAID is supporting under the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. In 2018, Vietnam achieved a key benchmark in this transition-assuming responsibility for funding, procuring and delivering anti-retroviral (ARV) drugs to one-third of all HIV patients in the country. The Vietnamese Government is on track to be able to finance 75 percent of all ARVs provided through the national health insurance system by next year.
