Experts and journalists discussed the most pressing issues that migrants raised during online consultations organized by the Resource Center for the Elderly with support from USAID. More than 500 people received professional consultations on renewal of registration, air travel, replacement of passports and other issues. Results of this project were discussed during a special press café devoted to the International Migrants Day.

Migrants found themselves in an especially vulnerable position due to the border closures and economic slowdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. USAID’s Safe Migration in Central Asia project in cooperation with the Resource Center for the Elderly Public Association organized online consultations for migrant workers from Kyrgyzstan. From August through November 2020, migrants could get advice on legal matters and psychological support through social media free of charge.

According to this important study, at 6%, the Naryn oblast now has one of the lowest stunting rates in the Kyrgyz Republic.

The implementation of a project called SPRING by USAID between 2014 and 2018 has resulted in a 65% reduction of stunting rates in the Naryn oblast.

A total of 25 awards were given to Kyrgyzstani businesses involved in various economic sectors such as the apparel, construction, and jewelry industries.

The 2018 winners of the Best Exporter of the Kyrgyz Republic were announced on May 6 during a ceremony at the Hyatt Regency in Bishkek. The ceremony was hosted by the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic’s Investment Protection and Promotion Agency and made possible with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The new factory creates 350 new jobs for supporting its production expansion and for meeting international quality standards.

On April 19, Vice-Prime Minister Zamirbek Askarov, Chui Oblast Governor Tuigunaly Abdraimov, and U.S. Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic Mr. Donald Lu visited a new apparel factory in Chui Oblast. The new factory creates 350 new jobs for supporting its production expansion and for meeting international quality standards.

The mortality rate for tuberculosis was reduced by 26 percent, and the incidence rate by 13 percent.

On April 5, 2019, the government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announced break-through progress in their fight against tuberculosis, an infectious disease that kills 500 people every year in the country.

This donation is the first of a total of 1.2 million books that USAID plans to print and distribute in Kyrgyzstan by 2020 under the Time to Read program.

The new treatment models are not only more effective in curing the disease, but they are also easier for patients to follow.

The Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and USAID announced major advancements in the fight against the ongoing tuberculosis epidemic in the country, as new life-saving treatments are showing promising results only two years following the introduction of new drugs and treatment courses for patients with severe forms of tuberculosis.

The new facility will result in the creation of 20 direct jobs and benefit an estimated 1,500 households.

Today, the United States’ government Agency for International Development (USAID) and Oasis Agro LLC inaugurated a new animal feed mill in Osh city. Osh Vice Mayor Mr Saibjan Turduev and USAID/Kyrgyz Republic Economic Development Office Director Mr Gary Shu took part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the facility.

On December 8, 2018, Prime Minister Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev visited Interfruit LLC, a dried fruit processing facility in Uch-Korgon, Batken oblast. Joined by USAID Mission Director Gary Linden, Prime Minister Abylgaziev familiarized himself with the facility and how it sources locally grown fruits to supply global markets.

The new modern facility will produce kefir, curd, sour cream, cheese, butter, and other dairy products in compliance with international food safety standards.

On November 2, 2018, President Sooronbay Jeenbekov and U.S. Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic Donald Lu inaugurated the Alaiku Organics milk processing facility in Osh city. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) supported the establishment of the new facility, which will become the largest active dairy processing facility in southern Kyrgyzstan. USAID saw this industrial expansion as an opportunity to raise the incomes of local farmers, who will be needed to supply to the new facility with up to five tons of milk per day.
