Pristina-based civil society organizations (CSOs) with a track record of monitoring public procurement extend their reach to more municipalities by supporting local CSOs to do the same.  CSOs have had a hard time tracking government procurements at the local level in the past.  To fill this gap, USAID’s Transparent, Effective and Accountable Municipalities (TEAM) activity partnered with CiviKos, a collaborative platform with over 240 CSO members active at the national and local levels.

Kosovo berries are set for an excellent season in 2020.  Blueberries from Kosovo are commanding good prices in Europe due to Kosovo producers’ strategic location and the ability to farm berries earlier than other European suppliers. Also contributing to the popularity of Kosovo berries is the decrease in the availability of frozen berries, leading to an increased demand for fresh raspberries.  USAID’s assistance and support to Kosovo farmers has positioned them to take advantage of these opportunities in the European market.

Kosovo courts made history on July 6, 2020, when Kosovo’s first-ever virtual court hearing took place in the Basic Court of Ferizaj.  Civil Judge Mirlinda Rexhepi presided over the country’s first online hearing using video conferencing technology.  “Online court hearings are welcome, especially during this pandemic.  They are easy and efficient and enable us to resolve cases and deliver justice without delay,” stated Judge Mirlinda Rexhepi.  Since then two more online court hearings have taken place in the Basic Courts of Ferizaj and Gjakova.  The courts successfully concluded two of the t

USAID's Transformational Leadership Program (TLP) produced a cadre of leaders working as agents for positive change in Kosovo.  TLP scholarships were funded by the governments of Kosovo and the United States, providing educational opportunities for studies in the United States.  After their graduation and return, the TLP Citizens Corps placed 169 TLP graduates of master’s degree programs in the public, private, and civil society sectors to provide professional volunteer services throughout Kosovo.

In response to recent worldwide challenges in public sector finance and private sector economic activities, the Kosovo Ministry of Finance (MoF) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) conducted a virtual forum on May 22, supported by the USAID Economic Governance activity.  Business representatives virtually joined the online conference to discuss the impact of response measures on public finances, as well as the future role of the private sector.
