“This disease is so dangerous, everyone is getting infected and dying from it and nobody knows how to control it. When people ask me, I have no idea what to answer…”
According to Vineeta Ray, a Community Health Officer (CHO) posted at a Health and Wellness Center (HWC) in Madhya Pradesh India, this was her biggest worry. She had heard that cases were reported in her state but had been given no clear guidance on what she could do. As she is posted in a remote region of the state, she was particularly worried about accessing accurate information quickly. Health and Wellness Centers (HWC), part of the Government of India’s Ayushman Bharat universal health coverage plan, provide comprehensive primary health care services and each HWC serves a population of 5,000 people.
On April 16, the U.S. Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), announced an additional $3 million to India to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. In coordination with the Government of India, USAID is providing these funds to the Partnerships for Affordable Healthcare Access and Longevity (PAHAL) project, an innovative financing platform of IPE Global.
On March 28, the U.S. Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), announced $2.9 million to support India in its response to the novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19. This builds on a foundation of more than $1.4 billion in health assistance, and nearly $3 billion in total assistance, that the United States has provided to India over the last 20 years.
The United States Government has made energy one of the critical priorities of our vision for a free, open, and secure Indo-Pacific region, which spans from the west coast of the U.S. to the east coast of Africa, or from California to Kilimanjaro.
USAID is advancing this vision through the Asia Enhancing Growth and Development through Energy, or the Asia EDGE initiative, by strengthening energy security, increasing energy diversification and trade, and expanding energy access across the Indo-Pacific region.
To support the U.S. Government’s vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific region, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) organized today a workshop on modernizing power distribution and the need to accelerate regional cooperation amongst power sector stakeholders in South Asia. Senior power sector leaders from governments and utilities in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and the Maldives took part in the dialogue.
