The pandemic of COVID-19 has devastated Italy, one of the United States' closest and oldest allies.  The United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), will provide critically needed assistance to mitigate the overwhelming disruption the pandemic has had on the delivery of health care in communities throughout Italy and the country's economic stability.  The assistance will help improve Italian citizens' access to essential health care and assist them to recover from the impact of the pandemic and re-enter, contribute to, and stabilize the economy.

Our understanding of COVID-19 is rapidly evolving as the virus spreads around the world.  Hence, having access to the most current scientific and medical information about the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of COVID-19 is crucial. USAID support will enable front-line health care workers to receive regular updates on the COVID-19 situation in Vietnam through a series of online training and discussions.

To address a shortage of essential PPE  in the United States, the USAID Linkages for Small and Medium Enterprises (LinkSME) project, in close collaboration with Vietnamese business support organizations (BSOs), reached out to Vietnamese suppliers and U.S. importers to facilitate the shipment of Vietnamese PPE products to the United States. Last week, USAID and the BSOs identified  around 180 potential Vietnamese suppliers with the daily capacity to produce nearly 800,000 medical gowns, millions of gloves, thousands of facemasks, and other face protective gear, as well as 20 international importers, distributors, and buyers.

United States Provides Assistance to the Pacific to Respond to COVID-19

The U.S. Embassy Suva announced the U.S. government’s $2.3 million commitment to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Pacific Islands region. The United States Government, through USAID, is coordinating with the governments of 12 Pacific Island countries, namely Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Tuvalu, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu and other stakeholders to identify priority areas for investment.
