Since 2014, USAID has been partnering with the Government and private sector in Uzbekistan to improve the quality and safety of medicines. One of the successes of this partnership has been ensuring the quality of medicines available to treat diseases of public health importance such as tuberculosis (TB).

With support of the USAID Eliminating Tuberculosis in Central Asia activity, the National TB program (NTP) in Uzbekistan has initiated the establishment of a new Coalition of People Affected by TB. The Coalition will participate in the development of the national TB strategy and be the voice of those affected by TB in health policy decision-making. This is a new development in Uzbekistan, as policy making has traditionally been solely the responsibility of the Government.

USAID’s Power the Future activity is accelerating Central Asia’s transition to cost-effective, low emission, energy-secure, and climate resilient economies through increasing the deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency in all five Central Asian countries.

USAID is providing technical assistance and capacity building to the five Central Asian countries to help them create an economically viable Central Asia Regional Electricity Market (CAREM). Through this work, USAID is working closely with the Central Asian governments, donors, and other key stakeholders to establish the technical regulations and institutions needed to maintain a secure and stable regional electricity market.
