Azerbaijan declared its independence from the Soviet Union in August of 1991. At the crossroads of the Middle East, Central Asia and Europe, Azerbaijan is bordered by the Caspian Sea and Caucasus Mountains, which span Asia and Europe. It is a secular state with a Muslim-majority population and strong traditions of religious tolerance.
Today, the United States Government, working through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) sponsored a conference on “Developing Women’s Entrepreneurship in Azerbaijan” as part of the 2017 Global Entrepreneurship Week.
Today, thanks to joint efforts between the United States and Azerbaijan, residents of the villages of Kamalli and Alisoltanli in the district of Saatli celebrated the completion of a new medical facility and the renovation of a kindergarten. Mrs. Anne Cekuta, spouse of U.S. Ambassador Cekuta, and representatives of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Ministry of Economy, the Saatli Executive Committee, and municipal government attended the event. USAID and the Government of Azerbaijan co-financed the projects, which were managed by the East-West Management Institute (EWMI).
On October 18 and 19, thanks to joint efforts between the United States and Azerbaijan, villages in Zardab and Aghjabadi districts celebrated the completion of multiple water supply and livestock management projects. The U.S. Embassy, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Ministry of Economy, local Executive Committees, and municipal government representatives attended the events. The United States, via USAID, and the Government of Azerbaijan co-financed the projects, which were managed by the East-West Management Institute (EWMI).
Today, thanks to joint efforts between Azerbaijan and the United States, residents of the village of Varkhan in the district of Saatli celebrated the completion of an improved irrigation system. Mr. William Gill, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Baku, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Ministry of Economy, the local Executive Committee, and municipal government representatives attended the event. USAID and the Government of Azerbaijan co-financed the project, which was managed by the East-West Management Institute (EWMI).
