September 26, Gyumri - The Gallery of Mariam and Eranuhi Aslamazyan Sisters opened its Museum Shop (at 232 Abovyan Street, Gyumri) - together with USAID/Armenia’s My Armenia program and the Armenian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport.

In collaboration with government partners at the national and local levels, as well as hundreds of stakeholders in the tourism sector, My Armenia is boosting Armenia’s economic development through the promotion of cultural heritage-based tourism in the regions.  By training rural-based artists and artisans, tour operators, museums and other stakeholders on topics such as branding and marketing, business design and management, improving visitor experiences and more, My Armenia is helping draw tourists to the regions, improve rural livelihoods and increase museum revenues.

Yerevan, Armenia – If nothing is done to counteract the decreasing groundwater reserves in the Ararat Valley, more and more Armenians could find themselves without water. Already, because of uncontrolled water use by fish farms and other large users, about 30 communities in the Ararat and Armavir provinces are without reliable access to drinking or irrigation water. However, USAID and its partner, Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company Armenia, are working to reverse that trend.

This Wednesday, Armenia and Catalonia will take center stage at the 2018 Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, D.C. The Festival, which will run from June 27 to July 1 and July 4 to 8 on the National Mall, will feature over 170 participants from Armenia and the Armenian diaspora, including artisans, designers, musicians, cooks, winemakers, and performers.

On June 15, the fifth annual “Tvapatum” media conference entitled “People and the Media” launched in Yerevan.

During the two-day conference, experts from the United States, Russia, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Georgia and Armenia will explore the new opportunities and challenges facing the modern media, and how the new realities affect communication with the audience.

On May 30, USAID and the Audit Chamber of the Republic of Armenia signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The cooperation is aimed at strengthening the audit function of the Audit Chamber and supporting its reforms in accordance with the Republic of Armenia “Law on the Audit Chamber” that was adopted in January 2018.

The My Armenia Program, funded by USAID and implemented by the Smithsonian Institution, and the AGBU Armenian Virtual College (AVC) have joined efforts to develop a multimedia e-book about Vayots Dzor, one of Armenia’s most beautiful provinces, to boost regional tourism and cultural preservation. The public launch of the e-book took place today at the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) premises in downtown Yerevan.

On February 1, the Media Initiatives Center launched a new exhibition entitled “Media Battle vs. Corruption” as part of its Lratun (house of news) Museum project.  

Through mobile exhibitions, Lratun presents the history of media coverage of significant events in Armenia, as well as the development and challenges of media and journalism. The goal of the Lratun project is to promote media literacy and encourage critical thinking among the general public, help shape savvy media consumers, and elevate the reputation of journalism.

During an opening event at the American University of Armenia (AUA) on January 29, the My Armenia program in partnership with AUA launched the second round of the Regional Guide Training Program. The course will help develop professional guide skills of the residents of Gyumri in Shirak province, Ijevan and Dilijan in Tavush, and Sisian in Syunik. Thirty guides from these communities and ten representatives from regional museums and tourism businesses collaborating with the My Armenia program will participate in the training.

USAID, World Vision Armenia and the Child Development Foundation announced the launch of the Community Level Access to Social Services project during a public event held in Yerevan on December 4. In attendance at the event were Armenia’s Minister of Territorial Administration and Development Davit Lokyan, USAID/Armenia Mission Director Deborah Grieser, Country Programme Director of World Vision Armenia Zhirayr Edilyan, Director of the Child Development Foundation Lusine Simonyan, and representatives of organizations working in the field.
